In an effort to eradicate known diseases in the Dachshund breed DASHaHOUND is committed to testing all its breeding dogs for known diseases. As more tests become available we will broaden the scope of our testing and our guarantees. Each Parent is Certified tested CLEAR for NCL and as either CLEAR or CARRIER or AFFECTED for PRA and identified as to which and the significance of that determination. All of our males are certified CLEAR for both except Gunny who is AFFECTED. Our females all tested CLEAR for NCL and their PRA status is listed on their page. Candy is the only female who tested AFFECTED. We have never created an affected dog and pledge not to. The two affected dogs we own were purchased from other breeders who do not test. We don't discard these dogs, we breed them to clear dogs producing carriers and breed those to clear, ultimately producing a clear line from them. The essence of it is; for a dog to have either disease it would have to be tested AFFECTED. Neither, a clear, or carrier would ever develop the disease. Since a carrier does not develop the disease they are fine for pets. But breeding a CARRIER to a CARRIER or to an AFFECTED dog can create an AFFECTED dog. As a result, DASHaHOUND will not sell a puppy who is a CARRIER for breeding. It must test clear. A responsible breeder can work with a CARRIER dog in a breeding program or even an AFFECTED dog but they have to test the puppies in the litter before breeding them and make sure they always have one parent who is tested CLEAR. Since we have no control over that, we sell only CLEAR puppies for breeding. Part of the extra cost of a show/ breeding puppy with full AKC rights is the cost to DNA test for NCL and PRA to certify the puppy is both NCL and PRA CLEAR and for the extended guarantee.

You may reserve a puppy from any existing litter from any upcoming litter. The deposit to reserve a puppy $100.00.

You may reserve an existing puppy by name of litter and identifying number or reserve based on criteria such as male wire or female smooth. This option guarantees the buyer a puppy which matches the criteria of those made available for sale. If no such puppy is born to this litter the full deposit is refunded or, at your option, may be applied to another upcoming litter. Buyers paying for full AKC registration for show or breeding are given first pick over pet buyers requesting limited AKC registration. Since we show and breed ourselves all available choices are made from those offered for sale. We reserve the right to keep a puppy for our internal breeding program. Of course the health guarantee applies regardless of the pick made. DASHaHOUND health guarantee extends for 24 months from receipt of the puppy by the buyer.

Make no mistake about Candy's quality. I can not quickly tell her from Blondie except she has a little black on her tail. The picture is of Candy with her first litter with Harley. For pet owners this will be a very special opportunity. Ruffy is an exceptional male shaded cream with a great pedigree. Candy is a very pretty CREAM DAPPLE. The white dappling looks like highlighting on a cream very pretty. Candy has very good conformation, is very pretty and has a wonderful personality. BUT she comes from a line which was never shown and has no champions in her pedigree. That doesn't mean they weren't capable, it means the owners never showed them. She is also PRA AFFECTED. Which means she will most likely contact the disease and at some point go blind. The good news is Ruffy is PRA CLEAR. So each puppy gets one gene for the disease from Candy and one "no disease" from Ruffy. The result is the puppies will all be "carriers" but will NEVER GET THE DISEASE. It only takes one healthy gene (called an allele) to insure good health. Normally we do not sell puppies for breeding unless they are PRA clear, although we would make an exception for a knowledgeable breeder who knew what they had and what to do with it and was committed to DNA testing.

Black and Cream Boy Cabot - I am reserved as a FREE replacement puppy for Fran Evans who lost her little Blondie/Harley boy to distemper. For those who do not know, distemper is a viral disease, not inhereited. Technically it is not covered under anyone's guarantee, it is simply terrible luck. But DASHaHOUND understands the loss and, as always, we try to go the extra mile. Yes, I am tooting our own horn but I am also trying to explain the differences it makes to choose the right breeder. No one expects tragedy but sometimes it can not be avoided. Puppy vacinations are not 100% effective until the puppy is at least 20 weeks old. The mother's immunity passes to the puppy and may not be strong enough to fight the disease but too strong for the vaccine. It can kill the vaccine but not the disease, worst of both worlds. We have used a "high titer" vaccine for Parvo which helps with this problem and are just in the process of converting over to a new "high titer" vaccine for distemper and hepatitus but it was not in time to save Fran's little Blondie Harley puppy. This replacement puppy will get both the high titer Parvo and DA2 vaccine. There is STILL a 5% chance the puppy will not be protected from these diseases until a subsequent booster but that is the best that can be done today. The 5 way and 7 way vaccines typically given are low titer doses of multiple vaccines and are much less likely to be able to overcome the inhereited mother's immunity. There is only about a 50% chance the typical 5 or 7 way vaccine gives the puppy any protection at all at the age of 8 weeks when they leave us. It is all or nothing, not cumulative. It challenges the system or it doesn't and there is no way to tell. The high titer Neotech vaccines are 90 % at 5 weeks and 95-100% at 8 weeks. We have decided not to release puppies until 9 weeks from now on. They will get a high titer NeoPar at 6 and 8 weeks and a high titer Neotech DA2 at 7 and 9 weeks. If we are shipping them they will not shop until 10 weeks.

I am VERY excited about this litter just like BooBoo's and for the same reasons. This is to be Harley's 1st litter here at DASHaHOUND (Ebony got in ahead of BooBoo). These are two of our finest pedigrees (same pedigree as the BooBoo Harley litter) and will produce the very best in Long Haired English Black Creams and Black and Tans. Harley is the sire of a litter at a friend's kennel in the Midwest but this will be ours. (The Dark Litter) Of course they are all black. We will learn which are black and cream and which are black and tan over time.
