How to Buy the Perfect Puppy

Select a breeder.  The breeder can be as important as the puppy you select.  What type of breeding method does the breeder use?  You can read more about the popular breeding methodologies and which one DASHaHOUND subscribes to under the breeding methods tab.  What is the facility like?  You can view our facilities under the kennel facilities tab.  What are the people like?   Ahh you will have to judge us for yourself there.  lol  Do they DNA health test?  Of course we do.  We also publish all results on our website, both good and bad with a full explanation of what those results mean and how we incorporate the dogs into our breeding program.  Very few breeders health test and fewer still publish all the results.  It is not enough to publish only the good reports.   Do they offer a health guarantee?  Yes here too.  Is the guarantee so full of legal language you know they would never have to honor it?  You can review our 2 year guarantee plus our verbal pro-rated extension up to 10 years under health issues tab DASHaHOUND guarantee link and the about us tab.  Do they socialize the puppies inside the home with exposure to their family or outside in a "dog only" environment.  This socialization will affect the personality of the dog for a lifetime.  You can not "fix" a scared, timid or mean dog who was isolated as a puppy.  DASHAHOUND puppies all spend their formative weeks inside our home, with our family, and get constant attention.  Do they have a list of satisfied buyers who have adopted previously?  DASHaHOUND publishes the first name of the people who adopt our puppies.  With their advance permission we would be happy to put you in touch with them to discuss their satisfaction.  ANY of them. 

Visit the breeder if it is practical, visit the website if it is not.  The website should list ALL relevant information.  There should be pictures of all their dogs, pedigrees, health certifications and the results, etc.  Pick the parents of the puppy you would like to adopt.  If you don't like the parents you won't like the puppy when the puppy newness wears off and the puppy is full grown.  DASHaHOUND welcomes visitors 7 days a week.  All we ask is to have you call ahead and give us 24 hours notice.  It is not acceptable to just "drop in" on anyone, kennel or not, it is still their home.  DASHaHOUND is very proud to say "we have no ugly dogs".  Come visit us and see for yourself.  You may only want a pet and a champion line pedigree may not mean a thing to you but you do want your Dachshund to look like a Dachshund is supposed to look, right?

Make a reservation.  DASHaHOUND has a unique way of handling reservations.  You can reserve whatever you can identify, such as "red wire male" or "long hair black and cream" or "pick of the entire litter".  You can be as specific or general as you like.  We recommend you should be broad in your reservation because you may change your mind when the litter is ready and that certain puppy is looking up at you. We have buyers who started looking for a "red wire" and ended up with a "black and cream long hair", a "dark female long hair" and picked an "EE (totally blond) cream male", etc.  But the choice is up to you.  You get your pick of what you reserve.  So, if you reserve your pick of a red female and someone else comes along after you and reserves pick of any, you get first pick of the red females but if you fall in love with a little black and tan boy, the person who reserved after you but was more general will have first pick of everything you said you weren't interested in.  If the litter does not produce what you want your position rolls over to the next litter.  So suppose you knew you wanted a "red wire boy" and none was created in the first litter you reserved for.  Your pick would simply roll over to the next litter.  There is never any pressure on you to take a puppy you do not want, NEVER.  Even if a litter produced the exact puppy you reserved, if you did not want the puppy for any reason we would roll your reservation over to the next litter.  We will even custom breed the pair of dogs you want to be the parents of your puppy, so long as the pairing is within our guidelines, such as the dogs are not related and the pairing is not a wire to long hair, etc.  DASHaHOUND always reserves the right to keep a puppy from a litter and we do reserve first pick but we tell you up front if it is our intention to keep a puppy from any particular litter BEFORE you make your reservation.  So, for a deposit of only $100 you can make sure you get the perfect puppy and we will work with you until you get it.
